Halloween night was great. Beautiful cool weather. We had over 250 trick-or-treaters. A few fairies stopped by... the larger "old world" type: child size. ~jbw |

Hmmmm... these urban fairies sure seem to be interested in books and stories! They follow my wife, who is a story teller, around. They have appeared at Nicola's Books. Now they have moved into the Ann Arbor District Library on Fifth Avenue. ~jbw |

I found out, from some alert friends, that a mention was made about the fairy doors in AAALiving's Michigan November/December issue as something for kids to do in Ann Arbor (Michigan). ~jbw |

I did a bit of "housekeeping" and busted up the "fairy droppings" page into 1, 2 & 3 and the "fairy finder" page into 1 & 2 . Hopefully this will speed the loading process. The Ark fairies are, once again, out of tickets. ~jbw |

I heard yesterday that Ann Arbor Family Press ran an article on fairies in their November 2006 issue. The GMTV spot was supposed to run on Wednesday, November 8 on ITV 3. GMTV is a British programme <(see? funky spelling). My Brit spies were unable to watch, so I do not have confirmation. ~jbw |

Don't EVEN think of talking to me today. I think that I will be more cranky than usual. Voilà's last day is the day after tomorrow (Friday Nov. 17) and in anticipation of that, the urban fairies in the column (and above) have moved out. I was at the Library a few days ago and found that part of the spine of one of the books of the fairy structure there was torn off. This morning I stopped by to see if the fairies had repaired it only to find a corrugated structure (a homeless shelter?) where the books had been! Apparantly an inquisitive child (aren't they all?), with no sense of limits and/or no parents, had pulled the entire assemblage from it's moorings. I hope that the literary urban fairies there do not pack up and leave like the ones at Jefferson Market. If I was an urban fairy, I'd be questioning why I had left the woods! ~jbw |

Whew!...better now. note to self: learn the patience of the fairies. Looks like the book fairies have put their readingroom/house back together. This morning I had the pleasure of having an interview with Sheila Shulman for WLBY 1290 AM radio ( to air noon on Saturday, Nov 25). Stefan Szepka joined us to explain about the Volksmarch event sponsored by the Washtenaw Wanderers Volkssporting Club, planned for January 7, 2007 downtown Ann Arbor. "Walk Among the Urban Fairies, Dragons, and Trolls of Ann Arbor" Its FREE. Start at The Ann Arbor Brewing Company, 114 E. Washington St. Ann Arbor, MI 48104 [clik the link for more info]. The "Fairy Welcome" event at the Ann Arbor District Library yesterday was a lot of fun! There was a heap of kids and parents. I also received some great pictures of fairy sightings. I have permission to post one set. I hope to be able to show the other soon. ~jbw |
