Urban Fairy door appeared
May 11, 2005

Selo-Shevel Gallery is a wonderful collection of exotic and domestic handcrafted items. This seems to be a natural lure for inquisitive fairies.

Sadly, some people are just mean.

Happily, The Urban-Fairies seem to be patient and have repaired most damge. I suspect that at some point they would give up and move on.

There are all kinds of signs of urban decay...even in the fairy world.
Winters are rough in Michigan!

BUT!
A few days after I took this picture...the stoop had been repaired!
(I'll post a pic later)

The stoop has been in pretty good shape for some time.
However, the door knob went AWOL around 8.26.06 to return around 10.2.06
(I guess the fairies don't HAVE to have it to get in)
and around 10.3.06 the architectural detail urn vanished
(above there are pennies in the urn's former location).

Well 3 months later the fairy door is fixed!
Maybe the urban fairies were waiting for good weather. It has been a long winter. Or maybe they were scared?

It never ends...
The door was pushed in and after the, aptly named, FESTIVAL of FOOLS the upper cornice was also broken. That is a rather deliberate bit of destruction.

Luckily, the urban fairies did not pack up and leave.
Once again, they made repairs.

Someone was kind enough to leave a pretty little flower.

It is very difficult for me to fathom what might motivate a person to destroy a fairy door. Just the day before finding this, I was dismayed to see the cornice had once again been broken.
May 11, 2011

Now the door is realy gone, even the remnents left by the vandals. The concrete stoop remains as does the miniature cornice. At least it does not appear like a war zone.

To add insult to injury, I heard that there were some people giving grief to the gallery owner about the destroyed fairy door! "How could you let this happen!?", "Why haven't you fixed it!?".

It seems that I should RE-explain that the store owners are graciously hosting the urban-fairies, they are not responsible for them. That being said....the do try and keep an eye out for them, but they have full time jobs running businesses.

They're back! I wouldn't recommend getting too close, I bet the urban-fairies are really ticked off! Maybe let them cool down a bit.
(and the let the door cure)

I got a bit closer (with a zoom), so you don't have to.
